Our Mission & Our History

Defending your rights, changing laws, and showing up when it counts.

Founded in 1995, the Tennessee Firearms Association emerged as a grassroots response to increasing governmental overreach and the erosion of Second Amendment rights. Recognizing the need for a dedicated organization to monitor legislation and advocate for firearm owners, TFA was established to ensure that the voices of Tennessee’s citizens were heard and respected in the legislative process.

Legislative Advocacy and Achievements

Over the years, TFA has played a pivotal role in shaping firearm legislation in Tennessee. Notably, the association was instrumental in advocating for the permitless carry law, which allows most adults to carry handguns without a permit, reinforcing the constitutional right to bear arms. TFA’s persistent efforts have also led to the reduction of the minimum age for obtaining a concealed carry permit to 18, expanding the rights of younger adults to defend themselves.

Legal Challenges and Courtroom Victories

Beyond legislative halls, TFA has actively engaged in legal battles to protect gun rights. The association has filed lawsuits challenging unconstitutional ordinances and regulations, ensuring that local governments adhere to state and federal laws. These legal actions have not only safeguarded individual rights but have also set precedents that reinforce the sanctity of the Second Amendment.

Recognition and Honors

TFA’s unwavering commitment has been acknowledged through various honors. The Tennessee Legislature has recognized the association’s contributions with resolutions and proclamations, highlighting its role in promoting gun safety and defending constitutional rights. These accolades reflect TFA’s respected position within the state’s political and civic landscape.

Community Engagement and Education

Understanding the importance of informed citizenry, TFA has invested in educational initiatives to promote responsible gun ownership. Through workshops, seminars, and publications, the association educates the public on firearm safety, legal rights, and the importance of civic participation. This commitment to education ensures that Tennesseans are not only equipped to defend themselves but are also empowered to advocate for their rights.

A Continuing Legacy

As challenges to gun rights evolve, TFA remains steadfast in its mission. The association continues to monitor legislation, engage with policymakers, and mobilize citizens to ensure that the right to bear arms is preserved for future generations. Through its enduring efforts, TFA upholds the principles upon which it was founded, serving as a bulwark against infringements on constitutional liberties.
